What’s On In July

Our Home & Community Services team has been busy organising a huge array of exciting events for our community of those living with dementia and their carers to attend. From Museum trips to salsa dancing, it’s all happening at St Luke’s Care this July!

Thursday 4th July 10:30am
Carers Connect morning tea support group for carers.
If you would like guidance, support and connection with other people who are caring for loved ones living with dementia, our monthly morning tea group will help you feel less alone and more supported.

Monday 15th July
‘Seaside Stories’ reminiscence day trip to the Maritime Museum
Our Home & Community Services team will accompany our community of those living with dementia and their carers on a trip down memory lane reminiscing about sea traval and beach holidays. The session iss lead by Museum Educators and followed by lunch in Paddington. Bus transfers to and from St Luke’s Care are provided.
$75 pp. Bookings are essential

Tuesday 16th July 12pm
Christmas in July
Join our Home & Community Services team for canapes and enjoy the fun festivities and company of our wonderful community. There will be entertainment, canapes and Christmas carols led by our choir master, Robert. Hosted in the Terrace Room at St Luke’s Private Hospital, St Luke’s Care, 18 Roslyn St Potts Point.

Monday 22nd July 9:30am
Taronga Zoo 6-week program begins
Delivered by Taronga Zoo educators, this program engages participants in education, interaction with a range of animals in various habitats, stimulating activities and access to sections of the zoo not accessible to the public. The program has been designed for people living with dementia and their carer to prevent isolation and encourage socialisation with others in the group.  Transportation to and from the Zoo from St Luke’s in Potts Point and morning tea are included. 
$180pp. Bookings are essential

Wednesday 24th July 1:30pm
Art Gallery of NSW 6-week program begins
Delivered by the Access Department of the Art Gallery, this program is a best-practice arts engagement model developed for people living with dementia and their carer to support social inclusion and improved wellbeing. The program is designed to stimulate the imagination, provide an opportunity of self-expression and reconnecting with a sense of identity. Each week includes a guided discussion on selected artworks allowing for individual reflection and group engagement; afternoon tea to socialise with other participants and a creative activity to express one’s interpretation of the artworks discussed.  
$100pp. Bookings are essential

Thursday 25th July 9:30am
Royal Botanic Garden 6-week program begins
The program begins with a walk or meditation encouraging participants to focus on the sensory experiences within the Garden, followed by morning or afternoon tea.  Each session consists of a nature-focused craft or gardening activity such as building a terrarium, flower pressing, seedling planting, working with clay, leaf rubbings and much more.  The program is designed to promote cognition, socialisation, physical exercise and engagement. 
$100pp. This program is supported by the Rose Bay Committee. Bookings are essential

Thursday 25th July 10:30am
Café Connect morning tea salsa dancing social for people living with dementia and their carer
Join Beatriz Occhiuzzi, the Founder and Creative Director of Salsa for Seniors for a morning filled with movement, music and merriment. Experience greater joy, more creativity, mindful movement and enhanced social connection, through participation in a tailored Salsa for Seniors program. Morning tea will be provided. Bring your dance partner, or we will partner you with a fellow dancer. Beginners welcome (and encouraged!). Seated salsa options are available for those with balance and mobility issues.

Monday 5th August 1:30pm
Australian Museum 6-week program begins
Join our newest community program for people living with dementia and their family or carer, in partnership with the Australian Museum. Each session consists of a walk around a different exhibition, followed by a related talk to promote engagement and discussion. The day finishes with afternoon tea to socialise with other participants.
$100pp. Bookings are essential
