Inpatient Rehabilitation

Inpatient rehabilitation helps you regain your independence through regular and intensive treatment, with medical and nursing support as required.

St Luke's Private Hospital's purpose-built facilities deliver inpatient programs. Programs are directed by qualified specialist rehabilitation physicians, and supported by a specialist team of allied health professionals (physiotherapist, occupational therapist, social worker, psychologist, dietician) and experienced nursing staff. We specialise in post-orthopaedic and post-spinal surgery rehabilitation, and we assist patients with musculoskeletal conditions, and rehabilitation following sports injury, trauma and work injury.

The heated indoor hydrotherapy pool is an integral part of our rehabilitation program. Hydrotherapy provides buoyancy and assists with reducing pain, helps to strengthen muscles, increases movement and improves walking ability. Used in conjunction with other rehabilitation techniques, a personalised program of exercises is developed to help improve muscle power, range of movement, balance, coordination, endurance and confidence in movement. There is always a physiotherapist in the pool with you to guide and assist with movement.

By the time you are discharged, it is anticipated that you will be able to walk safely and confidently both indoors and out, as well as managing stairs independently.

St Luke’s Inpatient Rehabilitation is accredited for benefits by most health funds, and with prior approval, by third party insurers. This program is covered under the rehabilitation services category of your hospital cover. Depending on your level of cover, your fund may charge you an excess or co-payment. We urge you to contact your health fund to determine your level of cover and any costs you may incur.
