Half-day rehabilitation allows you the comfort and convenience of remaining in your own home, whilst receiving the benefits of attending a comprehensive individualised rehabilitation program. It is suitable for those who still have rehabilitation goals, however do not require nursing and medical care. This is a highly popular program for those who have just been discharged from inpatient rehabilitation stays.
We specialise in:
- Post-Orthopaedic Surgery
- Post-Spinal Surgery
- Musculoskeletal Conditions
- Rehabilitation following injury or trauma
As part of this program, your personalised physiotherapy and hydrotherapy treatment plan is designed specifically for you by our physiotherapist team, who are led by a specialist rehabilitation physician. You will attend the program twice a week, each session taking approximately two to three hours. Your care will be reviewed and assessed by the team, and treatment plans made accordingly.
Programs typically consist of physiotherapy, proprioception, exercise, education and hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy in our heated pool provides buoyancy and assists with reducing pain, helps to strengthen muscles, increases movement and improves gait. There is always a physiotherapist in the pool with you to guide and assist with movement.
Additional therapies that may be utilised in your program include management strategies, wound education and occupational therapy. Other health professionals such as social workers, nurses and dieticians join the team as required.
If you are a current St Luke’s Private Hospital patient you will be seen by our rehabilitation physician on the ward for your first appointment. If you are not currently at St Luke’s, at your first appointment our rehabilitation specialist will assess your suitability for the program, and then determine which therapies will be of most benefit, how often you should attend, and your program duration.
St Luke’s Half-Day Rehabilitation Program is accredited for benefits by most health funds, and with prior approval, by third party insurers. This program is covered under the rehabilitation services category of your hospital cover. Depending on your level of cover, your fund may charge you an excess or co-payment.
