Local activities to promote healthy ageing

As we age, it’s more important than ever to focus on activities that are good for our health and also good for our soul. Promoting healthy ageing and social connection is something we at St Luke’s Care value highly. We’ve put our brains together to compile this list of activities, all in the Eastern Suburbs and local to our campus in Potts Point, for you to enjoy.

  • Coastal Walks: Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs boast stunning coastal walks, including the iconic Bondi to Bronte walk. Enjoy the fresh sea air, picturesque views and gentle exercise, promoting both physical and mental well-being. Walk with a friend and have a coffee or lunch afterwards for some much needed social connection.
  • Outdoor Tai Chi Classes: Many parks in the Eastern Suburbs offer outdoor Tai Chi classes, combining gentle movements with meditation. Tai Chi enhances balance, flexibility, and mental focus while providing a social and enjoyable activity. Improving balance is vital as we age.
  • Art Galleries and Cultural Events: Explore the rich cultural scene of the Eastern Suburbs by visiting art galleries and attending cultural events. This not only stimulates the mind but also provides opportunities for social interaction with like-minded people. • Community Gardens: Joining a local community garden encourages you to stay active while connecting with nature. Gardening is a therapeutic activity that promotes physical movement and offers a sense of accomplishment. Even visiting a garden provides countless benefit for your health. • Exercise Classes: Active Life Studio, on our campus in Potts Point, offers exercise classes tailored to seniors. These classes are run by physiotherapists and personalised to your needs. They also provide an opportunity to socialise, with many of our participants heading to the Nightingale Café together for a coffee or lunch after their workout.
  • Social Clubs: Joining a club or community center is an excellent way to socialise and engage in various activities. Many centers organise day trips, educational workshops, and social gatherings to keep you connected and active. We have many Community Programs for this exact purpose which we would love to welcome you on.
  • Learning Classes: Attend classes or workshops on topics of interest. Lifelong learning not only keeps the mind sharp but also provides an opportunity to meet likeminded people.

Healthy ageing involves a blend of physical activity, cultural exploration, and social engagement. You can embrace the opportunities within your community to stay active, form new friendship and enjoy the golden years with vitality and enthusiasm. Whether it’s a coastal stroll, a cultural event, or a friendly coffee catch-up, our local area of the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney provides the perfect backdrop for you to lead a fulfilling and socially connected life.
