Taking good care of the carers
Whilst being a carer is immensely rewarding, it can also be physically and emotionally draining.
It can be a difficult decision to consider respite; however, research shows carers who take regular breaks provide better quality care by relieving their emotional stress and physical exhaustion.
We offer home based one-to-one flexible respite for the primary carer of people who are living with dementia, chronic illness, disability and/or frailty. This allows the primary carer to take a break, attend appointments, or fulfil other commitments.
Government subsidies are available for respite care through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP). To access this subsidy, you require an assessment conducted by the Regional Assessment Service (RAS). To access an assessment, call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or visit www.myagedcare.gov.au. If you do not wish to have an assessment, or you are not eligible for a subsidy, you can receive respite through St Luke’s Private Home Care.
