St Luke's Care has a proud tradition of delivering world-class health and community care for 90 years.
Established in 1919, St Luke's Hospital first began in a beautiful home called Trebartha which was converted into a fully-equipped hospital. Having been comprehensively redeveloped and extended, the hospital still stands on the same site in Roslyn Street, Potts Point. The original building and land, together with other buildings such as Lulworth and Kenilworth, were either donated to or purchased by St Luke's.
As St Luke's Hospital grew, a much larger building was needed and one was constructed in 1927. This building has since been significantly extended and constantly updated and improved. The most recent renovations, comprising a total refurbishment, were completed in January 2009. Hemsley House was built in 1936 to provide living quarters for the St Luke's nurses. Some aspects of the original Trebartha and its chapel have been retained in Hemsley House.
The Hospital acquired the nearby Lulworth House from the parents of Australian writer Patrick White in 1938 and converted it into a maternity wing. In 1968, Lulworth was converted into operating theatres and administrative offices, then into an aged care facility in the early 1980s.
By 2002, Lulworth House in Elizabeth Bay had been upgraded and extended with two additional floors. Today it offers the very best in both low level and high level care and also provides respite accommodation.
And in 1993, St Luke's Home Care was established to provide home-based services for the community. All up, St Luke's Care currently provides care to over 500 people every day.
St Luke's Apartments also offers a range of exceptional retirement living apartments. Trebartha, superbly located in Sydney's Elizabeth Bay, was established in 1987, and in 2008 Little Bay Apartments was opened offering luxurious retirement living by the sea just 20 minutes from Sydney's CBD.
After so many years since my last visit it was great to see familiar faces among the staff."
